My black ink cartridge will not print but my colour ink cartridge is printing perfectly

Useful instructions if your printer fails to print with black ink cartridges
If your printer will not print black on your document then there are a couple of possible issues that might need resolving. First of all has the printer given a warning about low ink or has the ink actually run out and need replacing? If so, then replace the ink cartridge as directed. It’s a myth that you don't need black ink to print a colour image or indeed that you can print black text without the printer requiring a colour cartridge. The majority of printers require both the black and colour ink cartridges to be recognised as having ink and will not operate if one of the colours is out of ink.

If you have just installed your ink cartridges correctly and there are no error messages relating to the cartridges, but the black ink is still not showing when you print a document then the issue may be a blocked print head. The first step in checking this out is to go to the printer maintenance facility and run a test print to see if there is a trace of black printing at all. You can access this procedure in a couple of ways, either go to your printer icon at the bottom of your screen and select printer utility > maintenance > clean heads or go to file print and select printer utility > maintenance > clean heads. Performing a head cleaning procedure will force ink from the ink cartridge through the print head and clear any blockage that may be preventing the printing of the document. It’s important to remember that each time you perform a head cleaning procedure you print a test page to monitor the improvement of the print quality. The printer is clever enough to know that if you decide to perform another head cleaning procedure after printing a test page that the blockage was not cleared and will force a greater amount of ink through in a further attempt to clear the blockage. Although you may have no real option but to see it through, the downside of performing several head cleaning procedures is that it uses a lot of ink and will drain the ink cartridge quite fast.

The head cleaning will usually clear up the issue of the black cartridge not printing but if it’s still the case that the printer will not print black or the quality will not improve it’s possible that the print heads in the printer are the issue. Depending on the original cost of the printer it may be more economical to replace the printer than try to have the print head replaced.

Where is the best place to buy Canon replacement printer ink in Dublin?

Buying replacement Canon ink cartridges in Dublin can be an unenviable task especially if it means jumping in your car and trying to get across the city to pick some ink cartridges. There are many local retailers who sell printer cartridges in Dublin but the best deals surely must be those online. There are many online suppliers who offer low cost next day delivery of ink cartridges. These suppliers mostly concentrate on the supply of compatible ink cartridges for all the major brands such as Canon, Epson, Samsung and Brother. All other brands are available but the best deals will usually be found among these more popular brands.

Buy Canon replacement Ink Cartridges online with great deals and save your money

Canon printers come in different shapes and sizes with some printers using two ink cartridges, a black and tri-colour and some will use up to six individual colours. The obvious advantage of using the four or six individual cartridges is that the colours can be replaced as they run out and this can be more cost effective in the long run. Buying the original brand ink in Dublin can be very expensive and the cheaper compatible alternative is becoming more and more popular.

From a time saving point of view ordering online is the smarter way to order. The great deals for compatible ink cartridges online coupled with low cost delivery to Dublin makes sense for those considering making the switch to non-original cartridges. Replacement Canon cartridges come in two types; compatible or remanufactured. The compatible ink cartridges are new cartridges manufactured to act as a clone or replacement of the original cartridge. These are manufactured for those printers that contain the print head in the printer and not the cartridge and are generally cheaper than the remanufactured cartridges.

The remanufactured ink cartridges have the print head integrated into the cartridge. In effect, with this cartridge every time you change the cartridge you are changing the print head. This is claimed to give better printing results but the cartridges are much more expensive than their compatible counterparts. Either way, if you opt for buying compatible or remanufactured printer ink in Dublin the savings you make going forward will have a serious effect on your spending on printing.

Buying compatible ink cartridges in Dublin at low cost is more important than ever

The dramatic turn the Euro has taken in recent times against the UK Pound and the US dollar will surely make a difference in the running costs of any business and household in the Republic of Ireland. Focusing on one of the many elements that will be affected is the cost of printer ink cartridges in Dublin. The running costs of a business such as bars, restaurants or hotels that have daily print requirements can push up the cost of printing if they are currently using a supplier in the UK. The recent fall in the value of the Euro means you will in effect get less ink per cartridge for your Euro and the alarm bells should be ringing for you to shop around!

For any business or busy home user printer ink in Dublin has become an increasing expense in the last few years but with the advent of many online suppliers offering low cost next day delivery to Dublin, thankfully the cost is coming down. Many online suppliers will sell compatible or remanufactured ink cartridges at a fraction of the cost of the original brand offering big savings and in some cases free ink or gifts. Aside from the novelty factor of a free gift, these online suppliers want your repeat business and are willing to reward you for your custom in an effort to get you to buy from them over and over again.

During these austere times buying Irish is the best way to support the economy while still trying to get the best deal available. Many suppliers offer multipack deals that can make the ink cartridges in Dublin for as low as €1 a cartridge plus the standard 23% VAT. This will better even the low cost cartridge refill in Dublin. While the cartridge refill is generally thought to be more eco friendly than buying new cartridges, the simple fact is that you can easily have your non-refilled cartridges recycled by bringing them to your local Dublin City Council amenity site. Recycling your ink and toner cartridges is an important part of our responsibility to our planet and both compatible and refilled cartridges should always be disposed of responsibly. From a financial point of view, keeping ahead of the game by buying your ink cartridges in Dublin in a smarter way can help businesses and households weather the storm until such times as the Euro makes it way back up to where it belongs.

Will there be a noticeable difference in the quality of print if I use compatible rather than original brand ink cartridges?

Choose Compatible Ink Cartridges for Best Printing Results
As more people make the switch to compatible ink cartridges the question arises from those yet to be converted, will the quality of my print suffer? The simple answer is that for everyday general-purpose printing, no. By general purpose printing I mean, reports, letters, accounts, daily print outs such as menus etc, in fact anything that does not involve printing photographic.

Most of us use the printer for projects at home such as our children’s school assignments or projects and the printing of the occasional boarding pass when we are fortunate enough to get away on holiday. Somehow though the ink can still disappear (even though many I the household deny using the printer) and before we know it we are forking out a fortune for replacement ink cartridges. The difference in the cost of the original brand ink cartridge and the compatible version can be as much as 70% – 100%.

The price difference is too great to be ignored and providing the compatible or remanufactured version of the cartridge is of good quality and reliable then there’s no reason not to make the switch. The only difference in quality that independent tests have found between the compatible ink cartridge and original brand is in the life of the colour. To test this theory in detail we would need to make an experiment using a set of compatible and original brand printer inks.

Firstly we would print an image on a high quality glossy photographic paper and then repeat the process only this time with compatible inks in the printer. Initially there may be no noticeable difference in the quality (assuming the printer has been correctly calibrated after inserting both sets of inks), and then we must store the prints from two to five years to see if the difference in quality reveals itself after a period of time. It’s quite likely that the pigments in the ink from the compatible ink cartridges will begin to deteriorate after a period of time whereas the original brand cartridges will not. Considering this is possibly the most likely difference we can experience then I think it’s safe to say we can convert to compatible ink.

As a footnote, it’s worth remembering that the ink within the compatible cartridge does not contain the component that prevents the ink from drying out in the ink tank and may be prone to drying out if not used on a regular basis. The ink on the print head may also dry out but this can be cleared by performing a head cleaning procedure through the PC or on the printer itself, depending on the model.

Compatible Ink Cartridges Sales Overtaking Original Brand Cartridges

Sales of compatible and remanufactured ink cartridges are overtaking original brands cartridges in Ireland with more and more brands becoming available through 3rd Party manufacturers. The compatible ink cartridge industry has grown vastly in the last 2 years with sales of compatible ink and toner at an all time high. One reason for this is now the willingness for suppliers to stand over the printer as well as the ink they sell. In short, if the ink or toner causes a problem for your printer some of the more reputable suppliers are guaranteeing the printer as well as the ink. This shows the progress made by the manufacturers of compatible ink cartridges and their obligation to matching the ISO standards of the original brand ink.

Find Best Deals on Compatible Ink Cartridges and save money around 40% - 50%
As well as sales of ink cartridges increasing, the sale of compatible laser toner is also on the increase. More and more businesses are making the switch to compatible or remanufactured toners in an effort to reduce printing costs. An average sized small business will now print their own letterheads, leaflets and labels whereas in the past they would have used the services of a commercial printer. With the low cost compatible toner available, it’s at last within their budget to print their own. There are now savings estimated at around 40% – 50% using third party toners as an alternative to the originals and they will very rarely give any problems. This represents massive savings for any business within any trading year of a small business and should be considered when trying to find ways to reduce overall running costs. Good quality suppliers of ink cartridges will guarantee the printer as well as the toner ink and stand over any repairs that are needed as a direct result of any problems caused by their toners. This is less likely to be a problem with inkjet cartridges as the ink will either work in the printer or it won’t.

The viability of using original brand printer ink cartridges is now becoming unaffordable with rumours of some of the larger original brand suppliers introducing their own version of a compatible cartridge. This is somewhat a contradiction in terms as it will be basically the same cartridge as the original brand cartridge except at a lower cost.

How to print your own low cost personalised 2015 calendar on a home printer?

Printing a calendar on your home printer need not be expensive and has the added bonus of being personalized with images that are special to you and your family. More and more people are printing their own home calendars with family portraits or pictures of their pets as the cost of printing at home has come down with the availability of good quality compatible ink cartridges. The major cost involved before now was the cost of the ink. To run off 13 A4 pages with colour photos on them as well as the calendar was proving expensive. Now that compatible printer ink is widely available the need to pay to have them printed on-line or at a local print shop has declined.

Print personalised 2015 Calendar using compatible ink cartridges on home printer First of all decide the style of the calendar you would like to print. You can Google the different styles of calendar and choose one that suits your needs and importantly, your printer. For example, one of the most popular types is the calendar that fits into a CD case – this enables the calendar to be displayed upright with a simple method of changing the moths of the year. When you have selected a style of calendar, set your document size to match and begin selecting the images and corresponding months and putting together your calendar. When all the information is gathered and ready to print, make sure you have the correct weight of paper (a 90gsm gloss paper would be ideal for most printers – but if in doubt check online the maximum weight of paper your printer will take – this is likely to be 135gsm for a home printer). Next, make sure you have a good quantity of compatible ink cartridges at your disposal with an extra number of black as you are likely to use more black cartridges than any other colour.

Compatible ink cartridges are available for almost all printers now and certainly for all the leading brands. Some of the best value is Epson and these can be up to 70% cheaper than the original Epson brand. Printer manufacturers are adding more and more printers every week but they will all eventually accept the compatible ink making your printing a lot more affordable than ever before. A personalised printed calendar is such a great present for friends and family, why not start an image collection for next years calendar right now and build up the memories to share with friends and family.

Choose the Right Printer Cartridges From Leading Printer Brands

For most of you a printer is more than just an office tool. Printers and printer cartridges have become essential parts of modern life. They successfully complete the task of printing your essential documents and help you preserve the important data in a tangible form.

Choose the Right Printer Cartridges From Leading Printer Brands
There are several printer cartridge brands available today. Some of the leading brands like Brother, Canon, Centronics, Citizen, Dataproducts, Dell, Digital, Epson, Facit, Fujuitsu, Genicom, Hitachi, HP, ICL, Infotec, Kodak, Konica Minoltta, Kyocera, Lexmark, Mita, Mitsubishi, MURATEC, and Newbury Data supply printer ink cartridges that offer excellent printer ink quality and long life. Some of them are cheap ink cartridges, offering great value for your price on brand printer cartridges.

If you are looking to buy a new printer cartridge, you may look for the better options available in online print cartridges providers. There are a good number of online printer ink cartridge providers that offer all brands of printers and printer cartridges from leading brands like Newgen, Oce, OKI, Olivetti, Olympia, OTC, Phillips, Pitney Bowes, Printronix, Ricoh, Samsung, Sharp, Siemens, Tally, Tektronix, Texas Instruments, Triumph Adler, and Xerox. The online store provides you with immense options to choose the right kind of printer ink cartridges for your needs.

How do you choose the best printer cartridge from the hundreds of printer ink brands available in the store? Well, there are two options available for you: either you may opt for a brand new product or you may opt for the reused product.

Printer ink cartridges are the costliest part of a printer. Some of the printer cartridges cost more than half of the price of the printer as a whole. In this scenario, it’s better to opt for the reused printer ink cartridges or inkjet cartridges to save your money.

Reused printer ink cartridges offer the same quality as that of new printer cartridges. Many leading brands offer printer cartridges refilling services to customers so that they are able to draw the maximum benefit from their printers. This method also eliminates unnecessary wastage of materials like printer inkjet cartridges, thereby conforming to the green slogan “reduce, reuse and recycle.”

If you have already reused the printer ink cartridges for more than 4-5 times, you may look to replace it with a new printer ink cartridge that is compatible with your printer. If you are using an older version of a printer, you may find it difficult to get a printer ink suitable for your equipment. Printer ink cartridges dealers can be of great help in this regard.

If you approach a printer ink cartridges store, you will get a chance to look for the hundreds of models of printer cartridges from leading brands. Even if your printer is of different brand, you will surely get the printer ink cartridge from the huge set of ink cartridges displayed in the store. With the help of a professional assistance, the selection of ink cartridge becomes easier.

It’s important to look for a quality printer ink cartridge for many reasons. Whether you are a home user or business user, quality of the printer ink makes a huge difference in the printing process. If you want a smart and tidy printing, you will have to opt for the best quality printer cartridges from good brands.

Not all brands may offer you the excellent quality printer cartridge solutions. Some of these well-known brands offer cheap ink cartridges, so there may be a difference in the quality of printing. For example, if you are in the business of creative arts or advertising, you may have to look for the best quality ink cartridge that yields high resolution printouts of logo or advertisements in the way you want. In this case, you may have to sacrifice a bit of your savings so that you can get a professional quality printout for these jobs.

As printers are available in different specifications, printer ink cartridges are also modified to suit these printer applications. There are heavy-duty printers designed for bulk printings, so the ink cartridges designed for these printing activities may require bigger ink reservoir that can store the printer ink for several tons of printing. On the other hand, business users may require medium-sized printer for printing the day-to-day documents generated in their business. Home users or small business users may require ordinary printer that may require 1-10 pages of printing daily.

Printer cartridges are also available for printers designed for special applications like photography or brochure printing. As digital photography became popular, the demand for printer cartridge for this application also increased. Now most photography studios or design shops have printers compatible for photo printing.

The best way to sort out printer cartridges on the basis of quality is to look for international standards like ISO 9001. Leading brands like HP, Canon, Dell, Brother and Lexmark are ISO 9001 or above, so they can be trusted. With the ever-growing demand for printers and the emergence of new printer applications printer cartridge market is expected to show significant growth in the coming years. Though there has been increased adoption of virtual documentation processes, the value of printers and hence printer cartridges will remain unaffected in the future.

There is tough competition in the printer cartridges market. Both big and small printer cartridge companies are trying to reach out to maximum number of customers. To manage this competition many of them are offering cheap ink cartridges services to customers. With this, they can improve their bottom line while at the same time earn reputation in the market by showing an increased growth margin.

The competition among printer ink cartridge companies is a boon to customers. They have a variety of cheap ink cartridges to pick from and are able to save on recurring printing costs.

While buying a printer cartridge, however, you should ensure that you don’t sacrifice the quality for the price. Costlier printer cartridges are found to be long lasting than their cheap counterparts. Always be alert and prudent while selecting the print cartridge!

All I want for Christmas is a Printer that does not cost the Earth to run

Thinking of treating yourself or your office to a new printer this Christmas and finally bringing down the cost of your printing? There are a few things to consider before buying your new printer – the cost of replacement ink cartridges being one of them. Sure, the features of the printer are important, Wi-Fi, fast print output, AirPrint etc, but the running costs should be uppermost in your thoughts when you are choosing which printer to buy.

Buying Low Cost Inkjet or Laser Printer to Treat yourself or your office this Christmas
Decide first of all if an inkjet or laser printer is best for you. This will usually be determined by the amount of printing you do, whether it colour or just black and white. If you are a home user or a small business and print regular but not large quantities then an inkjet printer will be sufficient for your needs. These come in all shapes and sizes with many features, some you will use and some you won’t. Check out the cost of a replacement ink cartridge from the original brand manufacturer and then check to see if the same cartridge is available as a compatible or remanufactured cartridge that will be sold by a third party online or locally. Do your research first of all to check that the printer will readily accept compatible cartridges or contact an online supplier and ask if there is a good history of that particular printer accepting compatibles without any problems.

Most online suppliers will be honest enough to let you know if there are any issues – for example many HP printers have issues with compatible cartridges due to the software within the printer – some say designed to prevent you from using third party ink cartridges. The savings on some compatible inkjet cartridges can be as much as 100% on the original brand ink. Heard the one about the ink that costs more than champagne or Chanel No. 5? Hard to believe but like for like in volume it’s true.

The same rules apply to buying a laser printer for those busy home users or small businesses. Investing in a new printer can be a major outlay for a business and the availability of compatible laser toners – that may offer savings of up to 40% against original brand toners, is a big factor to be considered. Buy sensibly and don’t forget, a printer’s not just for Christmas.

What makes the Epson Workforce printer this year perfect Christmas present?

We all search for the perfect Christmas present for him or her and rarely think of giving a useful present such as an inkjet printer. If we have already selected the main gift for a loved one, friend or colleague, how about considering buying a replacement inkjet printer to make their start back to work or school more exciting!

Make a Perfect Christmas Present for your Loved Ones this Year by Giving Epson Workforce Printer

The Epson Workforce range of printers are very affordable, cost very little to run on compatible ink cartridges and are energy efficient with up to 80% less energy consumption than its competition in the laser printer market. The Epson Workforce is an all-in-one printer, that is to say it's a printer, scanner and copier. Home users and businesses of all sizes can benefit from the low energy consumption and the Business Pro range has advanced features to integrate with existing networks.

The big factor though no matter how big the initial savings are on the printer is the cost of the ink cartridges. No point in buying a printer as a gift for someone and them having them crippled with the running costs. For example, take the Epson Workforce WF-2530 Wi-Fi All-in-one. This printer can be bought for under €100 and uses four colour ink cartridges. These inkjet cartridges are becoming available shortly in Ireland as compatibles and can offer savings of up to 100% against the original brand cartridges.

This printer is compatible with both PC and Apple Mac, has a black and white text print speed of 34 pages per minute with a speed of 18 pages per minute for colour. The scanner and copier facility provides an excellent 1200 x 2400dpi optical resolution. The printer is wireless and is enabled with Apple Airprint, Google Cloud Print and Email Print. Finally, photo editing is possible via the integral software.

Pound for pound this printer is excellent value for money and ahead of many of its rivals. All in all, this could be the perfect Christmas present and although they will open it on Christmas Day may well decide not to plat with it until the New Year!

Where to buy Epson, Brother, HP, Canon, Kodak, Dell and Advent compatible ink cartridges in Cork?

Good quality ink cartridges in Cork are not too hard to find although you may struggle to locate the less popular brands in the city. Any good ink shop in Cork will stock the standard HP, Epson and Canon cartridges but getting your hands on a compatible Dell or Samsung may prove more difficult. An online search will usually reveal that these cartridges are easily obtained and delivered to your door within 1 – 2 days. For example, the Advent ink cartridges that are rarely sold outside PC World or Currys are not readily available in your standard ink shop but are available with next day delivery from online suppliers in Ireland.

Save Money on Best Value Compatible Ink Cartridges For All the Top Printer Brands in Cork
The savings made on the compatible cartridges are too big to be ignored and in some cases locally can be as much as 20% when compared to original brands. On line however, the savings can be up to 70% and in some cases suppliers will give free ink and low cost delivery! If you are using the Google search then your search can be as short as 'compatible ink cartridges Cork' or simply 'ink cartridges'. This will bring you results of the local businesses and the online businesses that deliver to your city within a couple of days. Online suppliers will be more likely to offer bulk packs for the heavy users both at home and in the office. If you print a lot and use a large amount of ink then the bulk packs that contain up to four sets of cartridges will be the best buy for you. These heavily discounted packs can offer big savings and mean that you don't have to order as regularly as you would have done or make those costly trips to your ink shop.

If you decide to shop online then finding a good supplier is crucial and doing your research beforehand will allow you to build up a picture of which suppliers offer discounts and money-back guarantees as well as fast delivery. Many online suppliers are open to negotiation for bulk buying and will offer more discount that they advertise on their website so this is worth bearing in mind and making a phone call can save you even more money!

Is it worth buying a bargain printer if it is on offer in-store or online?

Common Mistakes in Buying a Bargain Printers that may also Avoid Compatible Feature of Ink Cartridges
We are constantly bombarded with the sale of cheap printers in Currys, PC World, Asda, Tesco and many other large stores. Very often these deals seem too good to true, I mean – an all-in-one printer for Euro 40 – Euro 60? The first thing to do is to enquire why the printers are on offer – are they end of line or ex demo, there's nothing wrong with that, it's very likely they are trying to clear stock to make way for newer products. The real work starts in finding out how affordable the replacement ink cartridges are. Do they use a set of 2 ink cartridges or a set of four? 2 ink cartridges can sometimes actually cost more than four depending on the cartridge type. Will the printer work with compatible ink cartridges – it's worth checking that the compatible version of the cartridges are actually available – some printers are so new that the third party manufactures haven't had the time to produce a compatible version and it's still in fact work in progress.

A good way to find out if the compatible cartridges are available is to go online (you could even do this while you are in-store and check out price and availability). The cost of replacement cartridges is actually more important than the initial purchase price of the printer. The printer may last for up to 5 years so the cost of ink over that period of time will determine whether the printer was good value or not. It's worth checking with an online ink supplier to find out if an ink cartridge for the particular printer you are interested in has a good history of compatible with non-originals. There are savings of up to 70% to made using compatibles when compared to original brands. Compatible ink cartridges (these are an ink cartridge that is manufactured by a third party manufacturer rather than the maker of the printer) are great for everyday printing and you can buy them both as an inkjet cartridge and laser toner.

It's unlikely that the store you are purchasing the printer from will give you an unbiased opinion on whether or not you should buy the printer based on the ink cartridges it uses so you may have to carry out the research independently.

How to Print Professional Low Cost Christmas Menus for your Restaurant?

As the run in to Christmas gets underway many bars and restaurants are about to introduce their 2014 Christmas menu. Having your menus designed and printed at a Commercial Printers can be costly and sometimes out weight benefits financially. One option is to design and print the menus in-house using your existing inkjet printer or laser printer. Is it cost effective is the first question many of us will ask and will the cost of the ink cartridges being astronomical? We can deal with the cost of the ink later, but first of all some tips on designing the menu. If your menu is going to be A4 (this is a good idea as it will mean you will have no trimming to do) then set up your file in Microsoft Word or Publisher. Typing out the menu is straightforward enough, try and use some different fonts that have the appearance of Christmas.

Save Money on Printing Christmas Menus for Restaurant using Compatible Ink Cartridges

A nice font for the heading with snow on it would look effective. Many of these fonts are available online to download free and will give your menu that real Christmas feel. The layout of the content of the menu is very important, as it will need to display all your meals clearly and be easy for the reader to understand. When your content is typed then you need to decide on the layout – is it going to be one full sheet of A4 information or split into 3 columns and then fold to 1/3 A4 (this would be the size of a DL envelope when it is folded). The next part is the one that worries most people – the design. A good tip is to keep it simple with one background image. Search Google Images for an image you fell would look good as a background – this could be a Christmas scene, a tree or Santa Claus. Another tip here is to search for the image using your filter and only select high quality or Large file. This will ensure that you will have a high-resolution image in the background of your menu.

Now we come to the printing and ‘finishing’ of the menu. You may need up to 100 menus so a part from the paper the next major cost is your ink cartridges. Try to print on the heaviest paper that your printer will allow, this could be around 160gsm – it feels heavier than a standard 100gsm paper but not quite as heavy as a card. Using compatible ink and toner cartridges bought online from as little as 1 Euro per ink cartridge the cost of your printing is suddenly affordable.

When you have printed your menu then you have the choice of presenting the menu as it is or having it nicely finished by laminating or folding depending on your layout preference. Using your own tools and printing with compatible inkjet or laser toner cartridges will give you more control over the cost of printing your restaurant menus this Christmas.

Is there any way I can reduce the cost of printing the menus in my restaurant?

Printing menus in a busy restaurant can be expensive especially if you have daily specials that change every week. Many restaurants change their menus daily depending on the season or as a way to increase traffic through the door. Printing up to 100 A4 menus daily can be hard on the printer – more so if it is an inkjet printer as opposed to a laser printer. An inkjet printer will use up ink depending on the content of the menu being printed. If it’s possible to print in black and white that will reduce the amount of printer ink used and if at all possible refrain from printing large colour images.

Get Smart and Easy Ways to Reduce the Cost of Printing Restaurant Menus Using Ink CartridgesThe majority of the cost involved printing the menu comes from two sources; paper and ink cartridges. Ideally the paper can be a 90gm standard bond everyday paper and can be bought in bulk at bargain prices either locally or online. These can then be laminated if required or not if they are throw away on a daily basis. The printer and its ink cartridges are a very important factor in attributing to the cost. Original brand ink cartridges are expensive and will send the cost per sheet printed through the roof. Compatible inkjet cartridges are the biggest factor to take into consideration when trying to save money when printing menus. A typical Epson compatible cartridge can cost a much as 70% less than an original brand ink cartridge.

The compatible ink cartridges for all popular models are available online in bulk and with low delivery costs. Using these cartridges will allow any number of menus to be printed without being overly concerned about the cost. If it’s necessary to print colour images or a logo on the menu the compatible cartridges will allow you to do all this and more while still keeping the cost to a minimum. Some printer will print Duplex (double sided) and while this will not make a difference to the ink consumed by the paper it will mean you only use one sheet of paper instead of two.

A large number of printers will accept compatible or ‘remanufactured’ ink cartridges without any problems. For those rare instances that there is an issue with them – it may be a faulty ‘chip’ on the cartridge and this can be the case with original brand cartridges too – your supplier will simply issue you a replacement after first asking you to carry out a few tests to confirm this.

Switching to compatible ink cartridges will save money and give you the freedom to print a menu for every day without keeping one eye on the cost.

I need to replace my printer but am unsure if I should buy an inkjet or laser printer

If you have reached the point of no return with your printer and finally frustration gives way to spending some money on replacing your printer, how do you decide whether to go inkjet or laser?

Inkjet Or Laser Printer - Which is Suited to You??
Firstly consider how often you use the printer and how much money you spend on ink cartridges. If you only print once in a blue moon; for example printing your boarding pass when you are going on holiday, then an inkjet will suffice your needs. If several people in your home use the printer (during a school term this can mean the printer takes a hammering for ink and paper), it may still be advisable to stick with an inkjet printer. The crucial decision when buying an inkjet is the cost of replacing the cartridges, ask your supplier will the new printer use compatible inks, these can cost as much as 70% less than the original brand cartridges. Check with your ink supplier that the history of the printer working with compatibles is positive – worth checking this especially if you are thinking of purchasing a HP printer. Also, if you are just printing basic documents either in black and white or colour such as an Excel spreadsheet or emails then an inkjet printer should be sufficient. There will be a considerable difference in the price between an inkjet and laser printer – the inkjet will usually be less than €100. An all-in-one inkjet printer is useful because it gives you some features such as the copy facility that would be on a laser printer (but not at the same speed). Again, paying attention to the cost of a replacement ink cartridge is important, as it will impact on the cost of running the printer during its lifetime.

There are basically two types of laser printer, the basic document print and a Printer/Copier/Scanner. These printer uses laser toner cartridges as opposed to ink cartridges. The cost of printing per page is less with a laser printer than inkjet although the initial purchase price and toner cost is higher than its inkjet counterpart. The next major advantage is the print speed. A4 documents have been printed in bulk at a face pace. The downside is the cost of the toners, however, if you use the compatible or remanufactured toners this can give you considerable savings of approximately 40%. Overall, for long term high volume printing the laser printer is the better choice as the number of ink cartridges used for laser would be considerably less than that of an inkjet printer.

I am having a problem in printing my PDF file using Adobe Acrobat

If you are experiencing problems printing an Adobe Acrobat file there are several steps you can take to try and resolve the problem. The first thing to try is to make sure that your printer is properly connected and the cable is securely attached. If your printer is connected via a USB hub then disconnect it from the hub and connect direct into your computer. Switch off the computer then restart after 60 seconds.

If you are experiencing problems in printing an Adobe Acrobat file there are several steps you can take to try and resolve the problem.
Check to ensure you are using the latest printer driver. It’s possible that an updated version of the driver for your printer that will improve the compatibility between your printer and computer. Make a note of your printer model and visit the website of your printer manufacturer and search for printer driver. When you have found the correct driver for your printer click download. After the driver is downloaded you will need to restart your computer.

Of course we are assuming the fact that the printer will not print the PDF is due to a communication problem between the printer and the PDF but if it is a case that the printer will not print because it needs a replacement ink cartridge then that is a different matter entirely. If the printer recognizes the PDF but will not print it, then an error message will be displayed if the ink cartridges are due for replacement. You should go to file> print> properties and select maintenance and from there you can replace the ink cartridge.

If the ink cartridges are not the issue then you could try to print the document as an image. Print as an image can be found by clicking on the advanced dialogue box. The PDF could be a corrupt or damaged file and this will prevent the file from being printed. It will usually flag up a message to inform you this is the case. If the PDF was emailed to you by a third party request them to resend it as it may have become corrupt whilst in-flight. If you created the PDF file yourself, then delete the file and recreate the PDF.

A question that sometimes arises is whether using non-original ink cartridges can cause a PDF to fail to print. Usingcompatible inkjet cartridges will have no effect on whether the PDF will print or not. The quality of the print may be affected if you are using poor quality compatible ink but using third party replacement ink cartridges has no bearing on the issue of a PDF file not being recognised or printed direct from your computer.

Are Compatible Ink Cartridges as Good as Originals?

Choose the right type of ink cartridge for your printer!!
To be clear about the term 'compatible ink cartridges' this is a brand new ink cartridge produced by a third party manufacturer. These cartridges have no direct connection with the printer manufacturer and have not been used previously. The remanufactured ink cartridge, also sometimes referred to as a compatible, have been used once, returned to the factory, cleaned, refilled, reset, checked and tested. In simple terms compatibles are a lot cheaper than original ink cartridges. In some cases they can be up to 70% cheaper than the original brand cartridge.

The big savings are made by those who print in large volumes and as the compatibles very often contain more ink than the originals then the savings keep on growing. How is this possible? Well, the original brand cartridge manufacturers do not always fill the cartridges to the top – compatible will be filled to the maximum capacity of the ink cartridge and your cost of ink will then drop further. For those of you that don’t print that regular, there is a chance that the print heads may become blocked using compatibles, as they do not contain the chemical that prevents this. It would be a good idea to run some form of printed document through your printer once a month to keep the ink flowing.

The print quality of the compatible ink cartridges makes them perfect for everyday printing, with very little noticeable difference between them and the original cartridges. Of course if you are printing photo quality prints and expect them to be fade resistant then you would be better to do some tests first to see if the compatible will print to the standard you desire. A good quality compatible combined with original photo paper will give brilliant results and for home photos it’s hard to tell the difference between those and the original brand cartridges. The life of the image on the print may be slightly less with a compatible ink cartridge but if you frame your photos it should last longer.

Will the compatible inkjet cartridge or toner damage your printer? That is a question that is often asked by those buying compatibles or remanufactured cartridges for the first time. The simple fact is that a good quality compatible is no more likely to damage your printer than an original brand cartridge.

Compatible cartridges are certainly well worth a try, if you have had a bad experience in the past don't let that stop you trying them again. Find a reputable supplier who will offer advice and a money-back guarantee on your ink and start saving money!
