My ink cartridges in my printer will not work when I try to print

The following information is provided as a possible solution to issues you may have with your ink cartridges. These are some of the most common problems people will come across and preventive measures can reduce the chances of them actually happening.
  1. My ink cartridge has dried out

Preventive Measures for Reducing Printing Issues
One of the main reasons that an ink cartridge will give problems when printing is that the inkjet cartridge has dried out. This is especially noticeable when the printer has been idle for some time and the ink in the cartridge has dried out. Using the printer on a regular basis will help the flow of ink through the print heads. For those printers such as some Canon, HP and Lexmark, the print head is actually in the cartridge as opposed to the printer and this can get blocked through not enough use or if it has become empty. The solution here is to replace the ink cartridges as you are in effect replacing the print heads. The head cleaning cycle is the only way you will be able to clear a cartridge that has dried out. If you are using an ink cartridge with the print head in the cartridge, you know there is ink in it but it hasn’t been used for months and no amount of head cleaning will clear it, you can put a warm damp cloth gently against the ink nozzle where the ink comes out and gently wipe it until flow of ink starts. It’s worth trying this because at this stage if you are going to replace the ink cartridge it’s really a bonus if this works.

  2. Keeping your print head clean

It’s important that you keep the print head clean to prevent clogging rather than having to deal with after it becomes a problem. Some printers will automatically clean the print heads as part of a normal cycle every now and again but some such as HP will not carry out this operation unless you instruct it to. In printers where the print head is located in the printer, names some Canon, almost all Epson and Brother, then run a head cleaning operation if the printer has been lying dormant for more than 4 – 6 weeks to try and clear any blockage caused by hardened ink. The ink cartridge with the print head located in it HP and Lexmark mostly, can be wiped gently with a damp cotton bud dipped in warm water to clear away any build up of residue on the inkjet cartridge.

  3. Running a head cleaning cycle

A tip we have learned may help you when using the head cleaning cycle as you try to remove a stubborn blockage from your ink cartridge is not to run too many back-to-back cleaning cycles. If you have tried 3 or 4 cleaning cycles and it still will not produce the result you want, try printing a couple of colour images in the ‘best photo’ mode that can be found in your printer properties. This may give the print head a chance to flow the ink more freely and produce a better print.

  4. Carrying out a head cleaning process to improve the performance of your ink cartridge is a simple process, here are easy to follow instructions.

    1. (Windows) Click the Start button at the lower left of your screen.
    2. Click Control panel and choose Printer and Devices and view the printer on your system.
    3. Right click on the printer and choose Printing Preferences.
    4. The Printing Preferences will have 5 tabs, select Maintenance tab.
    5. Ensure your printer is turned on and loaded with paper.
    6. Select nozzle check and print out a test print which you will be able to compare to the correct version on screen.
    7. If the nozzle pattern is broken in any way or missing completely, then you must perform a head cleaning cycle.
    8. Select head cleaning and make sure there are several sheets of A4 paper loaded and the printer will begin to clean the heads.
    9. If after 2 – 3 head cleaning procedure have been carried out with the subsequent nozzle check no or very little difference is noticeable, try using the deep cleaning option if it is available in your Maintenance tab.

Best Value Ink Cartridges or Refills for Heavy Office and Home Usage

With the upward trend in businesses in Dublin, the need to find low cost ink cartridges has increased in recent months.

Dublin city, Ireland

Searching for the best value ink cartridges can be an exercise not everyone wants to undertake as it might give the impression of a time consuming affair that may only end up saving you a couple of Euros in the end.

Find the best value ink cartridges or refills in dublin and save money
The fact of the matter is that saving money on your ink cartridges is a very worthwhile exercise guaranteed to save you money. The first decision to make is whether to go for refilled or compatible cartridges. There are only a few types of ink cartridges in town that will be able to be refilled. These are the type with built in print heads and are usually manufactured by HP, Lexmark and Canon. Brother and Epson, who have a large share of the printer market decided long ago to integrate the print in the printers therefore supposedly making the cartridge cheaper as they didn't house a print head. So if you have a Epson or Brother printer that uses the system with the print head then compatible ink cartridges is the way to go. The compatible ink are up to 40% cheaper than the original brand but even cheaper if you go online and get some real savings – as much as up to 70%.

For those of you with Lexmark, HP, Samsung or Dell printers then the ink cartridge with the integrated print head means that you will be paying a premium price for your ink. However, there are still two options open to you other than buying an original brand cartridge. Option number one is to have the cartridges refilled in a high street shop and that's fine for refilling for one or two occasions but beyond that it's unlikely that the cartridge will work and the ink volume will almost certainly not be recognised. The second option is to purchase remanufactured printer ink in Dublin, this is an ink cartridge that was previously used as an original brand cartridge but has been recycled by a third party (not the original brand manufacturer). These cartridges are cleaned, refilled, had their 'chips' reset and tested in the factory. They are then repackaged as new and sold for approximately 30% of the cost of the original brand.

These cartridges are refilled and checked to a high standard and rarely give problems unless it is the recognition of the ink volume. Most of us can live with the ink volume showing either zero or low providing that the cartridge carries on producing prints for us. In Dublin, the price of original brand ink cartridge is the same as anywhere else in Ireland and more and more people are making the switch to compatibles and remanufactured printer ink.

Should I Buy Original or Compatible Ink Cartridges in Galway?

For those of us out there who are not sure whether to continue paying premium prices for original brand ink cartridges in Galway or to make the switch to compatibles, a price comparison on some popular printer ink may help to sway the argument.

Get Generic Price Comparison between Original and Compatible Ink Cartridges in Galway

Taking the most popular ink cartridges in Galway as an example, namely HP, Canon, Epson and Brother, we can illustrate a comparison price (for use as a guide only) to buying the original version of the ink cartridges in Galway and buying compatible cartridges online.

Cartridge Original Brand Compatible Brand
HP364XL Black €18.00 13ml ink €12.30 18.6ml ink (50% more ink)
HP364XL Colour €18.00 7ml ink €12.30 14ml ink (100% more ink)
Canon CLI521 €12.00 9ml ink €4.95 10ml (10% more ink)
Brother LC1240 €20.00 12ml ink €4.99 19ml (55% more ink)
Epson T1285 €35.00 16ml ink €12.00 52ml (300% more ink)

The first thing that strikes us is the price difference between the compatible and original cartridge. This is typical of the savings to be had using compatible ink cartridges in Galway. The second is the amount of ink that is carried in the compatible printer inks. The least amount of increase in ink is 10% while the greatest increase is 300%! What we can derive from this information is that not only is it better value to buy compatible ink cartridges in Galway but the ink will last you longer as the in volume has increased over the original brand cartridge. The reason for this is that the ink cartridges, whole the same overall size, are filled to capacity with ink unlike the original brands (with the exception of the original brand XL cartridges).

Many people have their doubts about the compatibility of the compatible ink cartridges with their printer. While there are occasions where the printer will not recognise the cartridge, these are quite rare and the majority of printers will accept the cartridges with no issues. Surely the gain in money saved and extra ink would be reason enough to make the switch and why not pick an online supplier who will offer you a money-back guarantee so you are protected either way. Original brand printer ink in Galway has become expensive and a more economical way of fuelling your printer has to be found if everyone is to carry on printing without worrying about the expense. The ink volume in a typical original brand Galway ink cartridge can be found to be more expensive that champagne or expensive perfume per ml!

What is the difference between compatible and original inks?

As more and more people are looking to make the switch to using compatible ink and toner, here is some useful and helpful information to help make that decision.

Compatible or Original Ink Cartridges, Which one is more suited to you?

When our attention starts to focus on at the cost of ink cartridges the first thing that strikes us is the difference in price between original and compatible ink cartridges and why is the difference so big in some cases. Another way of asking the question would be 'are compatible ink cartridges as good as the originals?' The original brand ink cartridge is manufactured by the brand that makes the printer so every cartridge they produce should be of the highest quality and suited to that particular printer. The compatible cartridges are in effect clones of the originals; ink cartridges that are manufactured not by the original brand supplier but by a third party. These 3rd party manufacturers are careful not too infringe any copyright or patent of the original but at the same time make they compatible and usable with your printer.

For the home user and general office user the compatible ink cartridges are more than adequate to suit your needs. The only time you are likely to notice a difference in the quality may be in the printing of photo print outs where the colours are crucial but for most of the time this isn't necessary. Within this same framework some colours may tend to fade after a period of time again only noticeable on colour photos that you may be printing out for resale. For general every day use, the compatible ink cartridge should work fine and give great savings for the heavy user.

Another version of the 'compatible ink cartridge' is the remanufactured ink cartridges. Not everyone understands the difference between these and their compatible cousins. The remanufactured ink actually contains the print head which means that every time your replace the cartridge you are replacing the print head. Brands such as HP, Lexmark and Dell all produce ink cartridges that use this system and these cartridges carry a lot of technology within them and this makes for good recycling value as the print heads will last way beyond the life of the ink in the cartridge when you first buy it. These cartridges are also refillable in a local refill shop and should work without too many issues. On some occasions though, after the cartridge has been refilled, the printer will know that it has been used before and try to reject the cartridge.

The savings to be had by using the compatible and remanufactured ink are too great to ignore and everyone should try it at least once to see if their printer can run for a fraction of the original cost.

Why am I Getting Poor Quality Print?

I am getting Blurred Print Outs

Helpful Hints to Get Optimum Print Results from your Printer
1) Probable Cause:

The sharpness of the print out depends on the interaction between the printer ink cartridge and paper you are using. Using printer ink with high surface tension gives sharp printouts. The disadvantage to using this type of ink cartridge is the length of time they take to dry as they penetrate the surface of the paper very slowly and stays on the surface of the paper for a longer period of time than for example a plain paper. Printer inks with a lower surface tension will dry quite fast but can soak into the paper causing the contours of the characters to appear blurred. This effect is referred to as bleeding. Our ink cartridges are designed to replicate the performance of an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) ink cartridge.

Helpful Solution:

To achieve an optimum print result on a plain paper, we would recommend you try different paper manufacturers. For a high quality print out, you should use a premium coated glossy inkjet paper available in most local shops and on-line stores. Always check the weight of the paper, anything too heavy may not pass through your printer!

I am getting Horizontal Lines on my print out

1) Probable Cause:

Air bubble in the print head: This is a common cause behind a lot of printing problems. When you are changing the ink cartridge, it's possible that air bubbles can enter the print head. This will stop the necessary pressure required building up and as a result, no ink will be sprayed onto the surface of the paper and you will see white lines appear in the print out. This effect is also sometimes referred to as 'banding'.

Helpful Solution:
The best way to improve the quality of your print out is to use the print head cleaning cycle feature. The printer ink is flushed through the print head to re-new the ink flow. It's likely that you might have to carry out this head cleaning procedure more than once to achieve the desired result.

2) Probable Cause:
Blocked up Printer nozzles: If the printer has not been used for used for long periods of time it's likely that particles will build up and block the print head. Regular use of the printer, even printing once a month can make a different as it prevents the ink cartridges from drying out.

Helpful Solution:
Removing this blockage is simple, just run the head cleaning cycle followed by a nozzle check (you can access this through printer properties > maintenance > head cleaning. If you can't get a satisfactory result after trying 3 or 4 head cleaning cycles, go into properties and select 'Best Photo' option and try a print out in the mode. This will push more ink through the head and may clear the blockage at the same time.

3) Possible Cause:
Print head needs replacing: With frequent use the print heads are prone to wear and tear like any other part and may at some time need replacing. Depending on the printer manufacturer and the price of the printer. Some print heads will have a limited life. For example, Epson use a Piezo print heads that will guarantee a long life. When they do become defective or worn out the repair can be costly, more than likely more than the cost of a replacement printer.

Helpful Solution:
Some printers have the feature of the integrated print heads, which basically means that the heads are separate from the ink tank; Epson and most Canon printers are among the manufacturers that sell this system of printer. The print heads are replaced on these types of printers, but as mentioned earlier this can be costly and these parts are not available as compatible parts so you are likely to pay a premium price. With HP, Dell and Lexmark the print head is actually part of the ink cartridge and is actually replaced every time you replace the ink cartridge.
