2014 is just around the corner and we would all like to give all our friends and family a personalised calendar as a gift this New Year. Well, it doesn't have to be expensive to print your own calendar despite what you might think. The cost is usually split between the paper and the ink cartridges. Putting the calendar together means you need 113 images in total. That's one for every month and one for the cover - if you choose to have one. The images could be family photos or possibly some local scenic shots of Galway, if they are your own then you have no copyright issues with the printing of them. If you download any images from the internet be careful that you don't infringe any copyright issues by using them. In total you will need 13 sheets of A4 paper if you decide to print one image and one calendar month on each page. The photos will use the biggest amount of ink during your printing and if you can get your ink for free then this won’t put you off.

The calendar months are available online for 2014 and you can download them either in Microsoft Word format or as a PDF file. The Word file would probably be the best choice, as it will enable you to edit the file as you go along. For example, you might like to insert a family member's birthday as a reminder for loved ones.

How to Increase the Life of Your Printer Ink Cartridge in Galway

Buying ink cartridges in Galway is not something we want to do unless it is absolutely necessary and it never seems that long ago since we replaced the last lot we bought! If you own a printer that works using a colour cartridge that comprises of the three basic colours and one black cartridge, you may face the problem from time to time of the cyan (blue) ink running out with the magenta (red) and yellow still going strong. In this case you will find that you can still print but without the blue! In the case of some ink cartridges, the colours are separate and can be replaced individually when required.

Print Regularly

Printers are prone to drying out if they are not used regularly, so the first tip is to ensure that you print something through your printer at least once a week. Print anything, a timetable for school runs or a shopping list. It may seem like more work for you but it will save you money on cartridges in the long run. The idea is that you keep the ink flowing. Otherwise it is possible that the ink will dry up or even evaporate in some cases – of course this will depend on the conditions the printer is stored in. If you are buying replacement ink it is worth asking your local retailer about how often you should use your printer to prevent this happening. If the ink has not evaporated but dried up, then it will be necessary to run a head cleaning cycle and this will use up more ink and further drain the cartridge.

Top tips for making your ink cartridges in Galway go further

1. Print your documents in Draft mode unless you are printing a business letter or a photograph
2. Take the cartridge out and shake it gently before you replace it. There may be a little more ink in the tank.
3. Turn off your printer when it’s not in use as unnecessary heat may cause the ink cartridge to dry up.
4. Always clean the ink cartridge head using the utility or maintenance function on your printer.
5. Store cartridges at room temperature and only buy enough cartridges to last you a year at a time. Apart from preventing the ink cartridges from drying out, you are sure to get better deals on-line as times goes on.
6. Finally, only print if really essential – apart from keeping the ink flowing, that is!
