Take a trip out this Christmas and discover a dash of culture in one of the festivals on offer in your area.
St. Martin's Apostolate, 42 Parnell Square, Dublin 11.
The Moving Crib in St. Martin Apostolate is an annual pilgrimage for many people every Christmas. It draws big crowds for children and adults from all over Ireland with its old world charm. The true spiritual meaning of Christmas is said to be ever present in this Christmas spectacle. The Moving Crib is an expanded version of the Nativity Play that starts with Adam and Eve and ends with Jesus teaching the doctors in the temple. There are approximately 100 figures in the Crib and they cover various events from the Old and New Testament. The figures are around a metre high moulded from paper-mache and dressed in clothes of the time. The motorised moving figures add an air of authenticity to the Crib.
There are 4 events taking place each day and all last for about 30 minutes.
